International Power Boat Association
The 2024 contest season has come to a close. On November 2nd the annual awards and meeting were concluded.
The board of IPBA, (International Power Boat Association, Puget Sound) has amended their contest rules and created a new contest category; Division 2, “All Instruments Division”. This division of contestants will compete against all other contestants that have signed up to compete in this category. What this means is that contestants can use all of their on-board navigation instruments during the contest.
The traditional “No Instrument Division” will remain as it has since Log Racing began in 1928.
The methodology of this decision is pretty obvious. In 1928, the only instruments on a vessel were a compass and a lead line. Today most all vessels are equipped with all kinds of navigation instruments, so why not use them. The addition of this new Division should help encourage younger skippers who have mastered the use of all this technology and have a competitive spirit to want to be engaged in this kind of vessel recreation. And besides, who doesn’t want to win bottles of fine wine for doing a good job?
If you are one such skipper, please join us when we start the 2025 contest season. And, by the way, our partners in life and boating have a very important part in the success of Log Competition, just ask one of our spouses.
Jim Anderson and I will be hosting training meetings before the next season gets underway. If you are at all interested, please call one of us and jump in.
