Commodore Evette Mason
I am excited and honored to continue to serve YOU, the members of Port Orchard Yacht Club (POYC). My husband and I recently moved to Kitsap County and value our many new friends at POYC and want to join you in making this the best yacht club on the Puget Sound.
My 30+ years of experience at the Port of Tacoma sharpened my event-planning skills, exposed me to different cultures and traditions, introduced me to the importance of public service and how to work with other governments, agencies and organizations. I even wrote a children’s book about the port and international trade!
I am a firm believer in representing the people that you serve, and endeavor to do so with honesty, integrity, and transparency. So, let’s roll-up our sleeves, get to work and have fun on the water!
Vice Commodore Tim Saffle
Sue and I have been POYC members since 2021, and we love the variety of events that the Club offers, from Winter activities such as the Christmas Cruise and Penguin Cruise and Spring and Summer events such as St Paddy’s Day Cruise and Club events on the 4th of July. I am excited to be your new Vice Commodore.
I have been in the Maritime business for over 48 years, starting as a deckhand at WSF and working my way up the ladder to Captain. I sailed on all the routes from Pt Defiance to Anacortes to the San Juans and Sydney BC. I also served as Port Captain for 9 years at WSF. I retired from WSF in 2009, and then became the Regional Representative for the Masters, Mates & Pilots Maritime Union, representing Deck Officers on Ferries, Tugs and other Vessels from California to Alaska. I was elected Vice President in 2015 until my retirement two years ago. I still am involved in the Maritime Industry as President of the Puget Sound Port Council.
I look forward to continuing to work with the other Flag Officers and the Executive Board and members to make sure our Club is the best club in the Puget Sound area. Sue and I look forward to representing POYC at The Grand 14 events.
Fleet Captain Mick Klass
I am originally from Buffalo, NY and lived in the northeast and mid-west until moving to Tacoma in 2008. My wife, Evette, is a native of Tacoma. We met in 2008 and married in 2009, but began our boating life together in 2016. Evette had some experience in power boats and I in sailboats. We bought a 40 ft Bayliner and joined Tacoma Yacht Club. A year later we jumped into a 45 ft Bayliner Pilothouse and enjoy year-round use of it with our Airedale Terrier, Charley.
In November 2021, having both retired, we moved to Bremerton, and joined POYC in the spring of 2022.
We recognize the importance of volunteers to POYC and will continue to do as much as we can to help out. I am pleased to have served as Vice Commodore, Commodore, and as Past Commodore now, your Fleet Captain. Even more, I hope to use the revised club management structure to help make POYC events more fun for members and to increase participation. In addition, I will help insure good management of the club through my seat on the Executive Board.
